Calico is a research and development company whose mission is to harness advanced technologies to increase our understanding of the biology that controls lifespan. Executing on this mission will require an unprecedented level of interdisciplinary effort and a long-term focus, for which funding is already in place.
Calico is seeking an exceptional Project Team Leader (PTL) to manage programs ranging from early drug discovery to Phase 2 clinical trials. The successful candidate will lead a cross-functional team responsible for developing compounds as the program transitions from target identification, through candidate selection to IND filing and exploratory clinical development. The PTL will be expected to partner with key stakeholders to define the vision and drug discovery and development strategy for the program and to provide experienced leadership and direction to the cross-functional team. Additionally, the PTL will be responsible for interacting with Calico’s partners, including AbbVie, to coordinate all scientific activities and manage the project’s resources and expenses. The PTL will be expected to drive both strategic and operational decisions, through a deep understanding of the target biology, candidate optimization, use of translational disease models to evaluate therapeutic indication selection and clinical development.
Applicants must have an Ph.D. in a Biological Science plus Post-Doc and a successful track record of leading program teams from target validation through early clinical development. She or he should have at least 7 years of industry experience in drug development, including experience in early phase non-clinical and early clinical drug development. The ideal candidate should have exceptional decision-making and analytical skills, strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as a proven ability to promote collaborations.
This is an individual contributor role with high visibility and impact. The individual will not have direct reports. The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
