Calico is seeking highly motivated research scientists with extensive experience in the area of preclinical pharmacology and experimental medicine. The qualified candidate will be responsible for the strategic direction of the late-stage research group and will oversee preclinical translational studies designed to identify the therapeutic potential for novel targets. The Head of Pharmacology will work closely with Calico’s basic research scientists, physiology facility, and project teams, as well as specialized CROs when required. The successful candidate will be expected to drive new initiatives from target identification to preclinical proof-of-concept to determine the therapeutic opportunity in age-related diseases. A key deliverable is to provide high-quality preclinical data necessary for decision making and advancement into early clinical development. Calico provides a scientifically stimulating and collaborative working environment and promotes a culture of data-driven scientific investigation and provides access to advanced technologies and infrastructure in the areas of, for example, genomics, microscopy, biochemistry, and advanced data analysis capabilities. The candidate will be expected to collaborate with our Business Development group to help evaluate new therapeutic opportunities and targets. This position requires extensive experience in pharmacology and physiology and a passion for translational medicine and a drive to provide rigorous experimental data to inform late stage research and drug development.
Applicants must have an PhD, PharmD, or MD with broad experience in preclinical pharmacology. Extensive experience in biopharmaceuticals and drug development and a minimum of 10-15 years of relevant industrial experience is required. The candidate must have a strong scientific track record as evident from publications, IND filings and/or patents. Strong interpersonal skills are required and the successful candidate will work in a cross-functional team and will be expected to influence the direction of the late-stage research programs.
