Calico is a research and development company whose mission is to harness advanced technologies to increase our understanding of the biology that controls lifespan. We will use that knowledge to devise interventions that enable people to lead longer and healthier lives. Executing on this mission will require an unprecedented level of interdisciplinary effort and a long-term focus for which funding is already in place.
Provide strategic vision and oversight for our purchasing function. Manage the accuracy and timeliness of data associated with our vendors and accounts. Manage payments lifecycle with finance to ensure timely/accurate internal financial planning and payment delivery. Audit inbound invoices against signed contracts, order forms, and internal monitoring tools to verify that all charges are valid. Manage dispute resolutions through to closure. Interact with teammates and others at Calico to build efficient and effective systems, tools and processes for the purchasing-to-payables cycle. Track the spend levels by vendor cost categories for accuracy against authorized contracts, and vendor performance. Provide strong leadership and guidance for the purchasing/payables group (currently two direct reports). Build positive relationships and trust, through strong follow-through and dependability.
A minimum of five years’ experience in a senior purchasing role, with at least three years of experience in biotech or science-based company. A Bachelor’s degree is required. Experience with spreadsheets, contracts, negotiating and basic data analytics a must. The ideal candidate will also have advanced purchasing/payables process and systems proficiency, including experience with NetSuite and Coupa. Demonstrated experience interacting with all levels and departments within a company is required, as are excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills. Outstanding attention to detail, organizational, analytical, prioritization, and multitasking skills. Self-starter, with the ability to accept responsibility for projects and see them through to completion.
